The United Nations and the European Commission have partnered in a three-year global project to implement the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, especially Women and Children, and the Protocol against Smuggling of Migrants by Land, Sea and Air, both supplementing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime. The report states there are at least 5,000 victims of trafficking living in Britain right now, being forced to beg and to work in the sex trade. Home Affairs Committee chairman Keith Vaz said: "This is not immigration crime and cannot be dealt with as such. What we are seeing is in effect a resurgence of a type of slave trade, yet we have no good information on the scale of the problem, enforcement is patchy, prosecution rates are low and there is little protection for victims." Two women originally facing charges in connection with a human trafficking ring have had those charges dropped as they are now suspected to be victims of the traffickers, not participants. Saying that moral outrage is easy to come by but that "real action requires real commitment," United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon called for collective action to stop human trafficking during a themed debate on the subject in the General Assembly. Even when all the signs of exploitation are present when men are being trafficked - such as the confiscation of legal documents - men are more likely to be labeled migrant workers and passed over by authorities. In a recent study by the NEXUS Institute for the IOM, men were found to represent 28 percent of all those people trafficked from Belarus, for example, usually being sent into forced labor in Russia. The CBI chief, Ashwan Kumar, said that more than 85 percent of the more than 1.2 million people trafficked in India are trafficked around the country. Sex tourism - especially child prostitution - is a rising industry in the country that serves as a source, transit center and destination for the crime. Kumar also said "The root cause of the problem is poverty, under development, unemployment among others. Therefore, we have to address the problem both socially and by enforcing law." A new report from the Border and Immigration Agency shows that at least 77 Chinese children have gone missing from a home under local authority control near Heathrow Airport. The number of children trafficked into Britain has gone up 50 percent in the past two years according to a study conducted by the Home Office's Child exploitation and online protectin centre (Coep). Three hundred and seventy-five children have been identified as potentially trafficked into Britain for activities including prostitution, illegal labour, forced marriage and illegal adoption.   Maximino Mondragon has been sentenced to 156 months incarceration and, jointly with his seven co-defendants, to pay $1,715,588.05 in restitution to the victims of a trafficking ring. The convicted traffickers convinced Central American women to come to Texas with promises of good jobs, and then forced them to work in their bars selling drinks to men. Two Thai men have been arrested for allegedly trafficking workers into the fishing industry in Thailand and then forcing them to work in slave like conditions. Malisa Promkote from the Anti-Human Trafficking Centre and The Mirror Foundation Bangkok said;
“We found migrant boys working, who were just nine to ten years old. Migrants from Burma and Cambodia were hired to work in the boats while there are many undocumented cases of exploitation of labour. They are not allowed to go back for over to two to three years. They are made to work hard for long hours and face acute shortage of food. Some have been beaten up or killed and thrown into the ocean,”
