Metropolitan Police have secured funding to help protect the women who have been or will be brought to London for the 2012 Olympic Games. "According to research carried out at the Sydney Olympics in 2000, about 10,000 sex workers were operating in the area. Albanian lawmakers recently banned speedboats, a preferred method for traffickers to take their victims out of the country, and it has sizeably reduced the number of people trafficked out of Albania. The recent Trafficking in Persons report by the United States Department of State called Canada "a source, transit and destination country for men, women and children trafficked for the purposes of commercial sexual exploitation and forced labour." Much of the sex traffick occurs internally, and many of the victims are First Nation women and girls.

Local NGOs and police have teamed up to prepare a plan to fight trafficking in response to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Teen girls in Canada have been selling sex on the internet classified Web site, Craigslist. Police report that some of these women - as young as 13 - do so voluntarily, but that others are being forced to sell their bodies online by pimps. The Irish Gardai are investigating 65 cases of human trafficking, 14 of which involve children. Half of these cases involve asylum seekers.
