A report by the anti-trafficking NGO The Future Group has criticised Canada for failing to protect victims of human trafficking. The report called “Falling short of the mark” says "Canada has systematically failed to comply with its international obligations ... Canada's record of dealing with trafficking victims is an international embarrassment," claiming that instead of being helped most victims of human trafficking in Canada are deported back into vulnerable situations. Canada’s newly elected government has said they will look into ways of addressing the concerns of the report. Immigration Minister Monte Solberg said "It's very disappointing and I'm shocked to see how slowly we've moved,".\r\n"We'll see what we can do to begin to fix the system so we're more responsive to these victims," he said.\r\nA study by the Canadian police states that around 800 people are trafficked into the country each year, mainly into the sex industry and a further 2,200 are trafficked via Canada into the US. Police estimate that the figure is far higher in reality with only around ten percent of victims reporting what has happened to them.\r\n\r\n\r\n
